Prof. Edward Aleksander Wylęgała, MD, PhD Head of the Department and Clinical Ophthalmology Unit at the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice.   Vice-Rector for Development and Technology Transfer at the Medical University of Silesia (since 2020).   Member of the Senate of the Medical University of Silesia.  Supervisor of 27 PhD dissertations and mentor for 5 candidates for full professorship.  Founder of the Polish Academy of Ophthalmology Foundation.  Head of the European Ophthalmology Center at the Railway Hospital in Katowice.  Visiting Professor at Xingtai, China, and the University of Messina, Italy. His scientific and research work focuses on corneal transplantation, ocular surface diseases, macular diseases, genetic research in ophthalmology, ophthalmic trauma, imaging, and glaucoma treatment.  He is the author and co-author of 580 scientific papers, with a cumulative impact factor of 445.202 and an H-index of 25. He has been cited 2,805 times according to the Scopus database.  A pioneer in ophthalmic diagnostic and therapeutic methods, he is a member of numerous scientific societies and a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences.  Board member of EuDES.
